  1. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
    • July – One day road trip
    • My son–B, my boyfriend–Mikey, my boyfriend’s little sister, and I
    • We drove up in one car, parked across from the Reading Terminal Market, and were able to walk everywhere else.
    • The only thing we needed to drive out to was the Rocky Statue
    • Highlights Visited:
      • the Liberty Bell
      • LOVE Park
      • Reading Terminal Market
      • the Rocky Statue
    • Tips:
      • You don’t need tickets to see the Liberty Bell, you just have to stand in line. However, if you want to visit Independence Hall, you have to get tickets across the street from the Libery Bell distributed by the National Park Service.
      • There are so many great places to eat in the Reading Terminal Market

    • We stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Atlanta Downtown
    • We were able to walk to almost all places and anything that was out of reach we used Uber.
    • Highlights Visited:
      • Georgia Aquarium
      • Olympic Park
      • Ebenezer Baptist Church
      • Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthplace, his resting place
      • Skyview Atlanta (only if you aren’t afraid of heights.)
    • Tips:
      • Try the Fried Green Tomatoes at Pitty Pat’s Porch Restaurant
      • After 4pm tickets into the Aquarium are 30% off

  3. Chicago, Illinois
    • October – 3 day trip – flew Frontier Airlines
    • B, Mikey, and I
    • We stayed at an AirBnB in Logan Square (city suburb)
      • I loved that we stayed here, we were able to disconnect from the city
      • We also got a good feel for different areas of Chicago
    • We very easily navigated the city via the trains and bought a 3 day pass, everything else we just walked or took a quick boat ride (great for architecture lovers)
    • Highlights Visited:
    • Tips:
      • You obviously must have deep dish pizza, I recommend Giordano’s , they have locations throughout the city
      • Get the 3 day pass or check what else might be economical for the length of your trip

    • Late October – 5 day trip – flew American Airlines
    • Mikey and I
    • We stayed at The Miami Beach Resort and Spa (near the Fountainbleu)
    • This was more of a lazy vacation than a cultural trip that we usually take
    • We walked a bit but mostly used Uber to get everywhere, we stayed in Mid Beach
    • Highlights:
    • Tips:
      • We had breakfast at the Latin Cafe every single day, it was THAT good

It was a good couple of trips in and around the states. I had never been to Miami, so that was a nice getaway. My son is now convinced that he must travel to all 50 states. I’ll try to help him along the way on that.
